When it comes to picking out the most influential comedy shows of all time there are many you could name but only one has consistently pushed the envelope and that show is 'South Park'.
Comedy has always been a way of commentating on current issues and affairs and Trey Parker and Matt Stone have managed to do this through the eyes of four school children from a Colorado mountain town. Since the show started on Comedy Central, South Park has given us twelve seasons, a motion picture and a huge amount of merchandising, making the show an international phenomenon. Everyone knows Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman but it is their antics that have embedded them into modern society.
Season six of the award winning comedy saw the series introduce new characters and situations to make up for the loss of one its founding members, Kenny. After been killed in every episode for five seasons, Kenny finally succumbed to the grim reaper and was no more, well for most of this season anyway. Now we are introduced to Butters, the blonde haired boy with no real confidence and parents that are seriously warped, as Kenny's potential replacement but Cartman sees him as his new puppet. This leads to a new persona for the character and one that will run for a long time, Professor Chaos, Butter's super villain alter ego who have his revenge on Cartman.
The season is filled with classic episode and ones that show how good the show can actually by. Standouts include 'The Terrance & Phillip Movie Trailer', which sees the trio having to endure 'The Russell Crowe Show' which sees the Oscar winning actor fighting around the world, 'Red Hot Catholic Love' which really lays into the Catholic church and the classic 'The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers' which sees the boys trying to return their Lord of the Rings video but it has been mistakenly mixed up with a special video. Each episode continues to see the series grow and get better with every season.
'South Park' is a comedic phenomenon that continues to have an impact on modern culture. While it might not have the same audience reaction as the now stale 'Simpsons', 'South Park' is comedy at it very best and season six proves this to be.
